Pakistan is making a big push into cryptocurrencies and high-tech. In the first phase of a nationwide plan, the government has allocated 2,000 megawatts of power capacity for the development of bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence data centers.
The plan, led by the Pakistan Crypto Committee, aims not only to attract foreign investment, but also to monetize surplus energy and promote high-tech job creation by fully utilizing existing energy capacity, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance.
Restarting coal-fired capacity to drive digital industries
In terms of energy allocation, the government plans to partially or fully use coal-fired power generation facilities, such as power stations in Sahiwal, China Hub and Port Qasim, which are currently operating at only about 15% of capacity, to power bitcoin mining and AI data centers.
This shift is not only expected to activate dormant energy resources, but also reflects the strategic coordination of the Pakistani government in the dual transformation of energy and digital economy.
Crypto legalization speeds up, creating a new highland for investment
Currently, Pakistan is actively promoting the legalization of cryptocurrencies and the establishment of a regulatory framework, hoping to attract international crypto mining companies and technology companies to settle down. Through this plan, Pakistan is trying to establish a crypto ecosystem that combines energy support, policy openness and cost advantages.
The Ministry of Finance emphasized that the plan will be gradually expanded in the next few years, laying the foundation for the development of digital infrastructure across the country, and is also expected to provide a large number of high-value-added technical jobs for local youth.
Pakistan's move is not only a positive response to the global crypto trend, but also a systematic exploration of the optimization of the domestic economy and energy system. By converting "idle energy" into "digital asset" productivity, the country is opening up a new path to get out of the energy dilemma and achieve technological leap. In the future, with further clarification of policies and continuous construction of infrastructure, Pakistan is expected to occupy a place in the global crypto mining and AI computing landscape.
