Hong Kong Cyberport today officially launched the "Blockchain and Web3 Pilot Subsidy Program", which aims to provide financial support to blockchain and Web3 technology companies in the development stage and accelerate the practical application of innovative solutions. The program encourages project teams to cooperate with enterprises from different industries to test and verify their blockchain and Web3.0 related technologies in a real environment, adding momentum to Hong Kong's efforts to become a regional technology hub.
According to the details released by Cyberport, this round of applications will be from June 18 to August 1, 2025. Each eligible institution can apply for up to three pilot projects, with a maximum subsidy of HK$500,000 for each project, and can receive up to 80% of the total project expenditure. This move aims to lower the trial threshold for start-ups and improve the landing efficiency of cross-border technologies.
Encourage cross-industry cooperation and scenario verification
The program places special emphasis on cooperation and verification mechanisms. Applicants need to cooperate with project sponsors from different industries, such as finance, logistics, medical care, education, etc., to jointly develop and test influential Web3 application scenarios. This will help promote the integration of blockchain technology in traditional industries and promote the transition from technical prototypes to actual commercial use.
Clarify the eligibility criteria and support local innovation
In order to ensure that the funding program focuses on supporting local projects in Hong Kong and projects with a substantial operating basis, applicants must meet the following conditions:
Registered in Hong Kong: Completed business registration in accordance with the Business Registration Ordinance (Chapter 310) before applying;
Already started business in Hong Kong;
Engaged in substantial blockchain/Web3 activities and belong to the recognized solution category;
Can be a technology company, research institution, start-up that has participated in Hong Kong's mature incubation program, or a new business unit established by a mature technology company.
Hong Kong continues to promote the development of the Web3 ecosystem
In recent years, Hong Kong has actively promoted the development of Web3, and Financial Secretary Paul Chan has repeatedly emphasized that Web3 and virtual assets are one of the future economic growth points. Cyberport, as a technology ecosystem platform, plays a promoting role. It has previously established a "Web3 Base" and supported more than 150 related companies to settle in.
The "Blockchain and Web3 Pilot Subsidy Program" is expected to further attract local and international entrepreneurial teams to conduct research and development, pilot and business development in Hong Kong, and accelerate the formation of a diversified and regulatory-advantaged Web3 innovation ecosystem.
