At the 7th Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC 7) held in Paris recently, engineer and Ethereum core contributor Zak Cole officially announced the establishment of the Ethereum Community Foundation (ECF). The foundation aims to serve the global Ethereum community, focusing on public goods funding, community governance participation and decentralized infrastructure development.

Zak Cole said that the core goal of ECF is to "provide a lasting and decentralized support mechanism for community builders in the Ethereum ecosystem" to complement the limitations of the existing funding system. In the future, ECF will allocate funds and support key development, research, security and education projects through decentralized governance.

The launch of the foundation has been supported by many veteran Ethereum developers and ecological projects, and is seen as a response to the Ethereum community's call for a more inclusive, transparent and decentralized governance foundation mechanism.

This announcement is also seen as a key institutional innovation in the context of the continued rise in topics such as Rollups, decentralized society (DeSoc) and public goods financing mechanisms (such as RetroPGF), and may become an important part of Ethereum's "sustainability roadmap".
