Microsoft engineers prepare server capacity for OpenAI's next-generation GPT-5 model, which was previously expected to be launched as early as the end of May.
After some additional testing and delays, sources familiar with OpenAI's plans said that OpenAI's next-generation GPT-5 model is expected to be officially released in early August.
OpenAI founder Sam Altman recently revealed at X that "we will release GPT-5 very soon" and even demonstrated some features on a podcast with Theo Von earlier this week.
Earlier this year, Altman called GPT-5 "a system that integrates many of our technologies" because it will include o3 reasoning capabilities rather than being presented as a separate model. GPT-5 was able to quickly answer questions he didn't understand, making him feel the power of AI.
It is reported that GPT-5 will also be launched in different versions such as mini and nano, and will be open to the outside world through an API. The model will integrate o3 reasoning capabilities to further improve the level of intelligence.
This is part of OpenAI's efforts to simplify and integrate its large language models in order to create a more capable system and ultimately achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI).
