Standard Chartered: The RWA market could reach $2 trillion by 2028.

A recent research report by Standard Chartered Bank indicates that the tokenized market for real-world assets (RWAs) is expected to reach $2 trillion within the next three years as more global capital and payment activities migrate to more efficient blockchain networks.

The report argues that DeFi (Decentralized Finance), with its trustless architecture, poses a significant challenge to the traditional financial system (TradFi) currently dominated by centralized institutions.

Standard Chartered predicts that as DeFi continues to expand its applications in payments and investments, the total market capitalization of tokenized RWAs (non-stablecoin types) could climb to $2 trillion by 2028.

This is projected to include:

1. $750 billion flowing into money market funds;

2. $750 billion allocated to tokenized U.S. equities;

3. $250 billion invested in tokenized U.S.

funds. An additional $250 billion will flow into "low-liquidity" asset classes, including commodities, corporate bonds, and tokenized real estate. Currently, the total value of RWA is approximately $35 billion. Achieving the projected $2 trillion target would represent a more than 57-fold increase in the market over the next three years.
