Hong Kong Financial Secretary Christopher Hui: Considering applying AI, tokenization, and blockchain technologies to existing products

According to a press release from the Hong Kong government, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui recently pointed out that the market has responded positively and rapidly to the application of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and tokenized products.

Building on this positive foundation, the Hong Kong government is actively exploring how to further promote the application of these cutting-edge technologies in existing financial products. Hui cited an example: in the future, the government may explore tokenizing assets with long-term stable cash flows—such as the continuous revenue generated by charging infrastructure—using blockchain technology to transform them into investable digital products.

This approach aims to allow a wider range of investors to participate in the investment of such assets with lower barriers to entry and greater transparency. He further revealed that related trials have already been implemented in some areas.

For example, pilot projects have been tokenizing long-term charter revenue. Leveraging the immutable and fully traceable characteristics of blockchain technology, long-term revenue that was originally difficult to divide and circulate is transformed into standardized, verifiable, and easily tradable digital assets, thus providing investors with a new asset allocation option.

This initiative will not only help broaden investment channels but will also further consolidate Hong Kong's international leading position in financial technology innovation and application.
