Tether CEO: Tether AI platform will support Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) payments

Stablecoin giant Tether’s upcoming artificial intelligence platform, Tether AI, will support major cryptocurrency payment functions including USDT and Bitcoin (BTC).

On May 5, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino previewed the upcoming release of Tether AI on the X platform. This new AI platform aims to provide "personal unlimited intelligence" services.

According to Ardoino, Tether's AI platform will integrate USDT and BTC payment functions, allowing users to trade directly through a peer-to-peer (P2P) network.

The plan is a continuation of Tether's announcement in December 2024 to develop an AI tool website, with the goal of launching it by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

Support for "any hardware and device"

Ardoino emphasized that Tether AI will not use application program interface (API) keys and will not rely on centralized control points.

Instead, Tether AI will provide a "completely open source AI operating environment" that runs on an "unstoppable peer-to-peer network" and is "fully modular and composable."

In addition, he said Tether AI will be able to adapt and grow on "any hardware and device."

P2P cryptocurrency payments through WDK

The announcement also stated that Tether AI's P2P cryptocurrency payment capabilities will be integrated with its open source wallet development kit (WDK) launched in November 2024.

Tether's WDK is a toolkit that enables developers to build mobile, desktop and web wallet applications to achieve self-custodial (or non-custodial) holding of USDT and BTC.

Unlike custodial wallets, self-custodial wallet solutions allow users to have full control over their assets without relying on third-party custody solutions to complete transactions.

Tether increases investment in AI

Tether AI is part of the company's overall strategy to expand its layout in the field of artificial intelligence.

In April 2024, Tether announced a corporate reorganization, introducing new departments outside of stablecoin development and launching the Tether Data department focused on AI and P2P development.

In February, Ardoino announced that its AI department is developing a series of AI applications, including AI translation, AI voice assistant and AI Bitcoin wallet assistant.

According to Ardoino, a key goal of Tether AI is to provide the "ideal technological foundation" to realize the vision of AI described by Isaac Asimov, one of the most influential science fiction writers on AI, author of works such as "I, Robot" and the "Robot series."

"In the coming decades, AI will become part of the fabric of the universe," Ardoino said in another Italian X post.
