OpenAI officially releases GPT-5

OpenAI announced on Thursday the launch of its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, GPT-5, the result of more than two years of development, numerous setbacks, and delays. CEO Sam Altman said in a conference call with reporters on Wednesday that using this new technology "really feels like talking to a PhD-level expert in a certain field."

He emphasized that the model enables anyone to create software applications using only simple English prompts - a process often referred to as "vibe coding."

GPT-5 is now the new default setting for all users in ChatGPT. Plus users can choose between GPT-5 and GPT-5 Thinking, while Pro users can access the old model through settings.

Microsoft integrated OpenAI's GPT-5 into its Copilot ecosystem, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and Copilot Studio. The new intelligent mode supports dynamic model switching to enhance reasoning and task-specific responses. Microsoft 365 Copilot now offers improved contextual understanding and processing of complex queries, while GitHub Copilot users can access GPT-5's advanced code writing capabilities. GPT-5 is available in four versions, optimized for logic, multi-step tasks, and multimodal enterprise applications. Developers can leverage GPT-5 through Azure AI Foundry, using its model router to ensure task-specific accuracy in AI-driven applications.
