On August 22, The Block reported that an anti-central bank digital currency (CBDC) clause has been included in a piece of defense appropriations legislation considered a "must-pass."
The clause was added to the latest version of the U.S. House of Representatives' National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The new section in the bill, titled the "Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act," mirrors a separate bill previously introduced by House Majority Whip Tom Emmer. Earlier this summer, the full House of Representatives passed Emmer's bill by a vote of 219 to 210, which aims to prohibit the Federal Reserve from directly issuing central bank digital currencies to individuals.
