OpenAI acquires Statsig for $1.1 billion

On September 3rd, OpenAI, a leading global artificial intelligence company, officially announced a major executive restructuring. The company created a new position of Chief Technology Officer of Applications and confirmed its $1.1 billion acquisition of Statsig, a specialized product analytics company, to further strengthen its capabilities in product optimization and data-driven decision-making.

Statsig specializes in A/B testing, feature releases, and product performance analysis, with a strong technical foundation and customer base in this field. Statsig's founder and CEO, Vijaye Raji, will join OpenAI with the acquisition in the newly created role of Chief Technology Officer of Applications, reporting directly to Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications. Simo joined OpenAI shortly after resigning as CEO of Instacart on August 18th of this year to drive the development of its applications business.

OpenAI emphasized in an official statement that Statsig will remain independent after the acquisition, with its team integrated into OpenAI and continuing to serve existing clients from its Seattle headquarters. This strategy demonstrates that while OpenAI integrates external resources, it also prioritizes maintaining operational continuity and customer relationships with acquired companies.

This restructuring and acquisition not only demonstrates OpenAI's continued strengthening of its enterprise-level solutions and service ecosystem, but also signals an acceleration in its strategic focus on promoting the practical application of AI technology. By integrating Statsig's mature testing and analysis system, OpenAI is expected to further improve product iteration efficiency and user experience, solidifying its leading position in the generative AI market.
