Stripe and Paradigm launch Tempo, a joint blockchain project designed for stablecoin payments

According to renowned cryptocurrency media outlet CoinDesk, Stripe, a leading global payments technology company, and Paradigm, a leading crypto investment firm, officially announced the launch of their jointly developed blockchain project, Tempo, on Thursday. Designed specifically for stablecoin payment scenarios, the project aims to create a high-performance, highly scalable underlying infrastructure.

Stripe co-founder and CEO Patrick Collison published a lengthy article on the X platform, revealing that Tempo originated internally within Stripe and is dedicated to addressing the urgent need for high-throughput, low-latency transactions in real-world financial applications.

He stated that the chain aims to process over 100,000 transactions per second and achieve sub-second transaction confirmation to support the large-scale commercial circulation and application of stablecoins.

In addition to its outstanding performance, Tempo also features a number of innovative designs: users can use stablecoins to directly pay network fees, significantly reducing the threshold for use and volatility risks; a built-in automated market maker (AMM) mechanism ensures neutrality and fairness among different stablecoin issuers;

it is technically compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and built on the high-performance Ethereum execution layer Reth, making it convenient for existing Ethereum ecosystem developers to seamlessly migrate and deploy projects.

In terms of governance and architecture, Tempo will operate as an independent entity, with Paradigm and Stripe participating as initial major investors. Currently, Paradigm CEO Matt Huang has led a core team of 15 people to advance development.

He emphasized that Tempo will adhere to the principles of decentralization and neutrality from the very beginning, initially introducing multiple verification nodes to participate in network governance, and plans to gradually transition to a completely permissionless open verification model in the future to ensure the long-term security and censorship resistance of the network. Industry observers believe that the launch of Tempo marks a new stage in the in-depth cooperation between traditional payment giants and crypto capital at the blockchain infrastructure level, which may greatly promote the practical application of stablecoins in global payment and business scenarios.
