According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, the Hong Kong government is planning to issue a batch of digital green bonds denominated in US dollars, Hong Kong dollars, euros, and renminbi, with pricing expected to be completed as early as today.

If the issuance proceeds smoothly, this will be the Hong Kong government's third foray into the digital bond market since 2023, marking a key step in its efforts to promote bond tokenization and the digitization of real-world assets (RWA).

Market analysts point out that this multi-currency digital green bond issuance not only reflects Hong Kong's active exploration in the integration of green finance and fintech, but also further consolidates its position as an international innovative financial hub.

It is noteworthy that bond tokenization is gradually moving from proof-of-concept to large-scale practice, and this issuance is expected to provide an important reference for the digital circulation and trading mechanisms of real-world assets.

Analysts at CITIC Securities commented that with the continuous improvement of related infrastructure and the sustained increase in market acceptance, it is expected that within the next two to three years, Hong Kong's native digital bonds will gradually transition from the current pilot stage to one of the regular financing options for high-quality enterprises. Digital bonds, with their advantages of high transparency, high liquidity, and low operating costs, may become an important component of diversified corporate financing strategies, further driving the digital transformation of capital markets.
