On December 2nd, Bloomberg reported that Vanguard Group, the world's second-largest asset management company, has officially adjusted its long-standing cryptocurrency policy, announcing that it will allow clients to trade ETFs and mutual funds primarily invested in mainstream crypto assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana through its brokerage platform.

This decision marks a significant shift in the institution's attitude towards crypto assets, breaking with its previous stance of refusing to engage in this field for many years.

Previously, Vanguard had avoided providing its users with direct investment channels in crypto assets, citing reasons such as high market volatility and regulatory uncertainty. With this policy change, investors with over 50 million brokerage accounts will be able to indirectly participate in compliant crypto investment products, thus gaining exposure to the digital currency market within a regulated framework.

However, Vanguard maintains a degree of caution, explicitly excluding investment products related to high-risk or highly speculative cryptocurrencies such as "meme coins." The company also stated that it currently has no plans to launch its own branded crypto investment products.

Analysts believe that Vanguard's move may stem from several factors, including growing customer demand, the gradual clarification of the regulatory framework for the crypto market, and the increasing acceptance of digital assets by mainstream financial institutions.

With several large asset management companies, such as BlackRock, successively entering the crypto ETF market, Vanguard's transformation also reflects the traditional financial industry's gradual acceptance of digital assets as an optional component of asset allocation.

Nevertheless, the company still prefers to provide limited exposure through existing compliant products, demonstrating a balance between innovation and risk management.

This adjustment is expected to bring more long-term capital and institutional participation to the cryptocurrency market, further promoting the maturity and popularization of related financial products.
