Just five months after launching a plan to accelerate artificial intelligence development, the Trump administration is further expanding its policy focus to the field of robotics.
According to three sources familiar with the matter, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has recently held intensive meetings with several CEOs in the robotics industry and is actively pushing for accelerated development in this sector.
Two of these sources added that an executive order on robotics technology is being drafted within the government and is expected to be officially released next year, aiming to inject new momentum into the industry from a policy perspective.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation is also quietly advancing its related initiatives.
One insider stated that the department is preparing to officially announce the establishment of a working group focused on robotics applications before the end of the year, to coordinate and promote the integration and innovation of robots in transportation and related infrastructure.
These developments indicate that, following artificial intelligence, robotics technology has become another cutting-edge technology sector of key focus for the US government.
Through multiple measures, including direct engagement with the industry at the highest levels, planning special executive orders, and establishing interdepartmental working groups, the Trump administration is attempting to build a coherent technology strategy from artificial intelligence to robotics, in order to consolidate the United States' global competitiveness in the automation and intelligent industries.
