OpenAI announced on its official website the establishment of the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) in partnership with Anthropic and Block, within the framework of the Linux Foundation.
This initiative has garnered widespread support from technology and industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, AWS, Bloomberg, and Cloudflare. The AAIF aims to build and maintain an open, neutral, and interoperable artificial intelligence infrastructure, driving AI technology from the experimental stage to large-scale, industrial applications.
As a core action of this initiative, OpenAI will contribute AGENTS.md—a concise and open format specification—to the foundation to provide project-specific instructions and context configurations for AI agents.
This move aims to ensure the format's long-term support and widespread adoption through community governance, thereby reducing the tool barriers to agent development and promoting collaboration and integration between different AI systems.
By establishing shared standards and open governance mechanisms, AAIF aims to provide consistent and reliable infrastructure support for global developers and enterprises, accelerate the implementation of intelligent agent technology in real-world scenarios, and drive the evolution of the artificial intelligence ecosystem towards a more collaborative and interconnected future.
