Gartner, a US-based information technology research and analysis company, has released its first report on large language models. The report shows that Volcengine ranks first among Chinese vendors and fifth globally.
Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud also made it onto the report's list.
According to Gartner's "2025 Global 'AI Application Development Platform Magic Quadrant'," the Leaders quadrant (i.e., the first tier) includes international vendors such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
The Challengers quadrant (i.e., the second tier) includes Volcengine, Alibaba Cloud, and Tencent Cloud.
Volcengine, with its Doubao large language model service platform, leads the global Challengers quadrant and ranks first among Chinese vendors. Public information shows that since its official release, the Doubao large language model has continuously upgraded and evolved, experiencing rapid growth in usage across application scenarios such as smart hardware, creative marketing, content creation, voice interaction, and AI programming.
Volcengine disclosed that as of September 2025, the Doubao large language model processed an average of 30 trillion tokens per day (the smallest unit used by the model when processing text), a 253-fold increase compared to when it was first launched in May 2024.
According to reports, the report comprehensively evaluated global AI application development platform vendors based on two dimensions: "execution ability" and "strategic completeness," and divided them into four quadrants: Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries, and Niche Players.
Reporters learned that this is also the first time Gartner has evaluated global AI application development platforms. Industry insiders say this means that the AI application development platform market is maturing and beginning to differentiate.
The Gartner report shows that AI application development platforms provide the necessary toolset, allowing enterprise developers to build AI assistants, agents, and multimodal applications without requiring deep machine learning knowledge, and have now become one of the mainstream products in the field of artificial intelligence.
