The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will host a roundtable discussion on cryptocurrency privacy issues on December 15.

On November 21, Cryptopolitan reported that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cryptocurrency Task Force announced a roundtable discussion on December 15 to address the growing privacy and financial surveillance issues within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. The meeting will invite crypto industry leaders and SEC officials to discuss the challenges facing the industry and potential solutions.

This meeting comes against the backdrop of widespread concern regarding privacy issues in the crypto industry recently, including the partial guilty verdict of Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, the sentencing of Samourai Wallet developer, and the significant price surge of privacy coins over the past two months.

It is worth noting that Matthew Galeotti, Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, issued a statement in August indicating that the practice of prosecuting developers solely for writing open-source code will be discontinued, emphasizing that writing code itself does not constitute a crime when there is no malicious intent.
