GoFintech Quantum's "One Body, Two Wings" Strategy Starts to Pay Off in Frontier Technology

Shares of GoFintech Quantum Innovation Limited (00290.HK) rose sharply in Hong Kong trading on August 11, gaining more than 12% as of 2:40 p.m. local time and climbing as much as 17% at the session's high.

Index inclusion improves liquidity

The company was added to the Hang Seng Composite Index in March 2026 and became eligible for trading through the Stock Connect programme. Index inclusion typically widens participation by mainland investors and tends to support trading activity in small- and mid-cap Hong Kong stocks.

Licences and business qualifications

According to publicly available information, GoFintech Quantum holds Type 1, 4, 6 and 9 licences for regulated activities issued by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission. It also holds cross-border business qualifications including QFI (Qualified Foreign Investor), CIBM (China Interbank Bond Market), QDIE, QFLP and Bond Connect.

Financial performance: revenue doubles

Company disclosures show that for the 2025/26 financial year ended March 31, 2026, total revenue rose 103.1% year on year to HK$1.753 billion, while total income reached HK$2.175 billion, up 138.1%. Adjusted EBITDA came in at HK$598 million, more than 11 times the prior year's figure, and adjusted profit attributable to owners was approximately HK$540 million, marking a turnaround at the operating level.

By segment, the company reported that revenue from securities brokerage and margin financing grew roughly 472.83% year on year, while asset-management-related segment revenue rose about 90%. The traditional financial services business provides the group's cash-flow base and funds its investment in frontier technology.

Digital assets: building around compliance licences

In digital assets, the company's subsidiary China Fortune Securities has obtained a virtual asset (VA) upgrade to its Type 1 licence, allowing it to offer virtual asset trading services to professional investors. Associate company MaiCapital holds a VA-upgraded Type 9 licence, permitting it to manage portfolios invested entirely in digital assets.

The company is also a founding shareholder of RD InnoTech, a participant in Hong Kong's stablecoin sandbox, and holds an indirect investment in Swiss digital-asset bank AMINA Bank. In addition, it initiated the establishment of the Hong Kong Digital Asset Listed Companies Association, whose first 49 members have a combined market capitalisation of more than US$20 billion.

The company has disclosed that it is currently applying for a Hong Kong Virtual Asset Trading Platform (VATP) licence and a digital-asset financial licence in Labuan, Malaysia, with the aim of building a dual-hub "Hong Kong plus Labuan" cross-border digital-asset service structure. The outcome and timing of these licence applications remain uncertain.

Quantum technology: from financial investment toward commercialisation

The company has established a quantum technology investment fund and a qubit opportunities fund, and has made strategic investments in targets including SpinQ Technology and Kuami Quantum. In 2025 it set up a Quantum Innovation Strategy Committee, with a research institute and laboratory operating beneath it.

On the product side, the company and Kuami Quantum jointly launched a quantum-encrypted hardware wallet built on a true random number generator chip, and have reached market-development agreements with several institutions. In April 2026, the company joined City University of Hong Kong, Origin Quantum and QuantumCTek in launching a Quantum Intelligence Industry Alliance, focused on combining quantum encryption with financial intelligence algorithms. The company also invited Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Peng Chengzhi to visit Hong Kong to take part in drafting the city's quantum technology industry roadmap.

Policy backdrop

Hong Kong's "Fintech 2030" strategy and China's 15th Five-Year Plan both reference quantum technology, providing a supportive policy environment for companies in the field.

Summary

GoFintech Quantum currently operates what it describes as a "one body, two wings" structure: a licensed financial services business as the foundation, with quantum technology and digital assets as two directions of expansion. Cash flow from the traditional financial business underwrites the investment in frontier technology, while the quantum and digital-asset segments remain largely at the investment and licence-application stage, with commercialisation and revenue contribution yet to be demonstrated.
