The USTC team's experiment ended the century-old quantum debate between Einstein and Bohr.

A quantum research team from the University of Science and Technology of China published a major breakthrough in *Physical Review Letters*. Using optical tweezers to trap quantum ground-state single atoms, the team has for the first time precisely realized the "recoil slit" quantum interference thought experiment proposed by Einstein and Bohr in their 1927 debate. The experiment, with a detection efficiency of 99.7%, plugged the loopholes in previous experiments, clearly broke Bell's inequality, and proved that the "local reality" advocated by Einstein does not exist in the quantum world. This experimentally concludes this century-long debate in physics, and the fact that its core equipment was domestically produced also demonstrates my country's global leading position in quantum experimental technology.
